Stoppel Farmstead

The George Stoppel farmstead restoration is underway.  Phase one, the smokehouse, has been successfully completed.  Future plans include restoration of both the house and barn.

Additionally on the farmstead are two man-made caves behind the house.  These all have historical significance, representing traditional farming practices, local agricultural history, and the development of rural communities.  Preserving old farms helps maintain cultural heritage and a connection to the land.  The objective of the restoration is to return the buildings to their original appearance, ensuring they stay structurally sound for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.

These buildings were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
